Local Artisan Hacienda Maize Sizzles in 2016 Culinary Competitions
“Colorado-grown chiles stand with the best!”
Denver, CO, USA, November 15, 2016—Colorado artisanal food maker Hacienda Maize is heating things up in culinary competitions this year earning seven awards. Blazing at both the 2016 World Hot Sauce Awards and the International Flavor Awards, Hacienda Maize’s Jammin’ Jelly™ varieties won major awards at each competition.
For the second year in a row at World Hot Sauce Awards, Hacienda Maize Fire-Roasted Chile Jammin’ Jelly, “spicy/sweet/savory cooking-magic-in-a-jar,” earned best Hot/Extra Hot Jam/Jelly. Last year Fire-Roasted Jalapeño Jammin’ Jelly took top honors; this year Jalapeño Diablo Jammin’ Jelly forged ahead with the win. Overall, Hacienda Maize won in the following categories:
- 1st place World Champion, Jam/Jelly Hot/Xtra Hot, Fire-Roasted Jalapeño Diablo Jammin’ Jelly
- 2nd place Meat Marinade, Hacienda Maize Steak Diablo a la Mole
- 3rd place Salty Snacks, Hacienda Maize Jammin’ Curried Peanuts
The awards in Meat Marinade and Salty Snacks categories, two years running, demonstrate the versatility in cooking with Jammin’ Jelly. “Chefs are creating sensational recipes with Jammin’ Jelly, from soups and savories to chocolates and nuts,” says Terri Maize, Partner in Hacienda Maize.
At the 2016 International Flavor Awards, Hacienda Maize commanded much attention and brought home to Colorado the following awards:
- 1st place, Jam – Hot, Fire-Roasted Jalapeño Diablo Jammin’ Jelly
- 3rd place, Jam – Hot, Fire-Roasted Jalapeño Jammin’ Jelly
- 3rd place, Jam – Mild, Fire-Roasted Mira Sol Jammin’ Jelly
- 3rd place, Wing Sauce, Fire-Roasted Jalapeño Jammin’ Jelly
“We are very pleased to be recognized for our ‘Unapologetically Delicious’ Jammin’ Jelly,” says Maize. “Colorado-grown chiles stand with the best! We attribute part of our success to Milberger Farms in Pueblo, CO, which grows all of our chiles and therefore guarantees us high levels of taste and quality, and superb fire-roasted chile flavor,” adds Maize.
The recent wins are not the first for Hacienda Maize. The Jammin’ Jellies have won in various culinary competitions in previous years. The highly prestigious Scovie Awards and Chile Pepper Magazine Awards gave top honors to Jammin’ Jelly and to creations made with Jammin’ Jelly that include wing sauce, stir-fry sauce, desserts, and chocolates.
“Winning ‘Denver’s Best Grilled Cheese Sandwich 2014’ was a thrill for us,” says Maize. “We were up against chefs from big-name restaurants, yet earned both the Judges’ Choice and the People’s Choice awards. Chef Darci Hata aced the competition with Jammin’ Jelly caramelized bacon, as well as a schmear of Jammin’ Jelly, some fresh Mira Sol (Pueblo) chiles, three cheeses, and greens sandwiched in yeasted cornbread and grilled,” adds Maize.
These recipes and many more can be found on the Hacienda Maize website. Stock up your pantry with Jammin’ Jelly by taking advantage of the online ordering system, or visit a variety of retailers listed on the site.
